Strings For Your Heart Quartet
What is a String Quartet, and
Why Would I Want One?
A string quartet consists of a pair of violins (Violin 1 and
Violin 2), a viola, and a cello. These instruments roughly
correspond to the soprano, alto, tenor and bass sections
of a choir. After 1750, (Beginning with Haydn),
composers wrote numerous compositions for this classical
combination of instruments. When more sound was
desired, additional players were added to each string
part. An orchestra could be made with an addition of a
double bass, brass, winds and/or percussion.
Booking a string quartet for your wedding or special
event adds a lovely touch of elegance and a sophistication
that complements any theme without music so loud that
it distracts from conversation. The string quartet can
play indoors or outdoors. In addition, unlike a single
instrument or singer, a quartet offers harmony and a
blend of sounds with a range that far exceeds that of a
human voice.
